Aesthetic nose surgery (Rhinoplasty) remains popular today. Many scientific studies are still being conducted on it and new techniques are being developed.
Being located in the middle of the face, its protruding structure, and its large impact on the proportion and appearance of the face make the nose the most striking structure on the face. This situation always keeps the nose on the agenda.
The operation process starts with the decision of the individual. The next step is to meet with the specialist physician, which in my opinion is one of the most important stages of the process. Understanding the demands correctly and reaching a consensus on realistic solutions in line with these demands is the key point of the process. Patients mostly apply with the complaints that the nose is large and long, arched, wide, curved or the tip of the nose is low. The shape of the nose is changed with the planning made according to certain ratios before the surgery. Accompanying problems that often cause breathing difficulties can be determined before surgery and possible solutions can be added to the treatment plan.
The operation can be performed after the age of 18, when the development of the nasal structure is completed.
The surgery is performed under local anesthesia or mostly general anesthesia. The duration of the procedure varies between 1-3 hours on average, depending on the patient and the procedure to be performed. After the surgery, the tape is applied to the nose for a certain period of time in order to minimize the swelling in the soft tissue. The plastic splint is applied to the back of the nose in almost all cases. Intranasal tampons are not used unless the middle part (septum) separating the two nostrils is intervened. In cases where tampons are required, small silicone pads with a hole in the middle and do not prevent breathing are placed. In cases where plastic splints and tampons are used, an average of 1 is removed after a week and taped again for a while.
In the postoperative period, the patient is discharged on the same day or the next day, with recommendations, depending on the patient’s condition. Swelling and bruises occur around the eyes and nose in the first 2 days. In this process, it will be beneficial to apply cold for 15 minutes per hour, to lie with the head elevated, not to bend the head down, and to avoid situations that increase blood pressure. After the 3rd day, swelling and bruises begin to decrease and a significant part of them regresses after a week. At the end of the first month, an average of 60-70% of the swelling in the nose disappears, the remaining swelling disappears in an average of 1 year. It takes 1 year for the nose to take its final shape.
After a successful operation, patients experience significant physical, mental, and social well-being.
